i feel like i'm missing something here. help me out?

i'm wiring two 100w lights. everything is with 12g wire. so i hooked the positives together and ran them up to my relay at number 87. then hooked the negitives from the lights to the radiator core support (i know its a good ground, used it before). the i grounded the relay number (85) to a fender bolt.
then took power from the battery to the relay using number 30

then i connected the positive part of a toggle switch to number 86. then grounded the switch to the frame.

why isn't this working?

Unless you have more that 2 prongs on your toggle switch, you need to have the switch wired with a positive wire not a ground. The only reason a toggle would be grounded is if it is one of the lighted variety. Do this: take a wire from the battery or other known power source and jump power to terminal #30 on the relay. If it closes the circuit and turns your lights on then you know you have an issue with the toggle switch.

Here is a more straight forward diagram that i actually have printed out and glued to the inside of the lid on my electrical terminal kit for handy reference.

well the toggle i will be using is only a two prong. non lighted. but when i was testing it last nite i used a new toggle so i would know there wasn't a problem. the new switch was a three prong. i only used the power and the ground connection...

i gotta go to work, but i'll check this out more in a bit.

the wires you have on your 3 prong switch should be hooked to the load and supply pins, unless you plan to use the illumintaion light then you dont want to put anything to ground.

x2 - The toggle only needs to be wired with 2 positive wires, 1 from the power source and the other to the relay. There is no ground needed at the toggle (for unlighted SPST), the ground circuit will be completed at the relay with the wire at terminal #85.

This is mostl likely it exactly. The purpose of a two pole switch is to sever the connection between the lights and the power source. It doesnt matter how many relays or such you have, with a 2 pole switch, only positive wires are connected battery-----switch-----lights
frame------------------lights

Thats it, fi relays in whereever on the positive wire but it still battery to switch to load.

that was it. i was missing the concept of needing power to the switch! i bought a new cool rocker switch and things are good to go. still need to remount the lights, cut the grill and make sure that i have clearance when i build my bumper. don't want my flip bar to be in the middle of the lights field of view

lights work wonderfully! and bright as ever! i think i'm gonna run another set in line with them tho. bet ya i can get it right the first time around too!
