I am looking for a standard auto 4 or 5 pin relay that operates @ 12 volts but will switch properly at lower voltage (9-10 volts)

Where can I find something like this?????

Pretty much any autoparts store should have them ineir electrical section. Napa, crappy tire...you name it. Not a hard item to find.

They are commonly just called a bosch relay, I use them for remote starts and driving lights all the time. All you need is a very small voltage to trigger them (millivolts) and a 12v power source.

Thats what I have now but the lower voltage trigger is causing it to buzz really loud.

As soon as there is 12 volts to it the buzzing stops.

check out princess auto they got them and they have em with wiring harness too and they have at our megastore here in winnipeg other types of ones for electronics and such so check out their surplus section.

Interesting question. Why would you want it to switch at the lower voltage?:)shady

I have tried 4 different relays.

Here is what I am doing... I installed a HID kit (9007 Hi/Low) The kit comes with a relay that magnetically moves the bulbs to switch between the high and low beams.

Originally the relay supplied with the kit was buzzing with the DTR (daytime running lights). After some checking with a volt meter i found the DTR was only running 9.5 volts to the bulbs. When the DTR lights are active the relay buzzes. When I turn on the head lights i get full voltage (12V) and the buzzing stopped.

I was worried about wrecking the HID relay so I wired in a basic relay to supply the HID relay with full voltage. Now the relay I installed buzzes at the lower DTR voltage.

this is how I wired the relay. Maybe the wiring is wrong although the relay is still working (including the loud buzzing)

pin 30 - 12V constant power from battery
pin 85 & 86 one is ground and the other is the switched power i cut from the headlight low beam wire
pin 87 - power out from the relay to the HID relay (checked and when switched supplies 12V)

I am thinking since both relays buzzed with the DTR then the lower voltage is causing a problem....

At this point i am thinking looking for a different 12V (rather than the 9.5V) switched power source to activate the relay i installed is the next best route...

I know at the dealership I'm working at we have what we call 'remote start relays' that come with a plug and pigtail. I know they work with low voltages as we use them for door locks and such where all you get is a trigger signal from the remote start box which is very low voltage and needs to be a 12v signal to the actuator for it to work.
