I am going to be putting 33x 12.50 tires on my 02 edge in a couple weeks. Should i regear to 4.88's, or should I get a bamachips programmer? I know the programmers have a good rep but Im starting to think the regear would be more effective since im planning on putting a 5.0 in, eventually. I have 4.10s now, would a 5.0 and 4.88 gears be too much? Im going the prerunner route and more acceleration is important to me.

Thanks,
Jason

4.88s will be a little much for a 5.0 if you want to run down the freeway at 70MPH but a regear will be much better than a programmer IMO.

I would regear jsut because you are getting a 5.0L and your programmer will be usless as its for the 3.0L. I would swap up to like 4.56's maybe? it would make the 33's definately more bearable in your 3.0L and you would be set with the 5.0L probably assuming you got an 8.8?

yes. I have an 8.8, so regear it to 4.56 is the consensus?

Agreed. Also, you most likely won't get your bamachips thingy from what I've read... dudes having some personal issues or something.

re-gearing is always the proper way to account for tire size imo.

Im running 33's and 4.10 and it does me fairly well, im not tempted to change my gearinf too soon, over drive is mostly gone, depending on the day i can use it at times, but it still does the trick

Ok, that helps. So just drive around with the o/d off? I can do that. Haha. I will be using it on the highway for sure though, too keep up the mpgs. Im still debating the 4.56 gear change. Anymore opinions?

Thanks,
Jason

if you are going to drop in a 5.0 i would just regear its cheaper than reprograming cause then your just going to go to a bigger motor regearing is better

On a calm day flat land i can run 70 mph with O/D on with the 3.0 and the 4.10's that got 300 000 kms/200k miles

any slower i run with the o/d off and it runs like it did with the stock 235's and overdrive as far as rpms did lol...

Overall mixed driving i avged out 17 mpg on a couple of tanks,

and still wheeled it a bit, nothing wile just some fun

And if you are going to a v-8 i would bet 4.10 would be an ideal gear,
