regarding thread types, what is "hembra"?

doing some comparison on different tie rod ends. on the NAPA site in the description of some it's "male threads".
for some others, like 03 Aviators or Explorers it's "hembra".
anybody know what the difference is?

Apparently "hembra" is female in spanish.

which just adds to the confusion,,, the male threads must be referencing the ball stud while the hembra threads refer to the rod part?????
in the pics they look similar, only "male" has a hole for the cotter pin and "hembra" has a hex end so you prevent the stud from turning while tightening the lock nut.
