Hello guys, I recently purchased a 97 ranger 4x4 and am having some issues with the hubs. I know they are notorious for failing, but when I removed the hub there was only one axle shaft spacer and no thrust washers between the nut and the cam.

I have seen various parts layouts and many of then differ.
The one I am looking at shows 3 axle shaft spacers and 2 thrust spacers. Is this correct? seems like alot. I have nothing to reference from, so any information from you guys is greatly appreciated.

Who ever owned this vehicle before hand also put a random c-clip in the groove the is a lot taller and different than the other side. The other side's c-clip is almost flush with the splines.

this is the layout I am referring to

That site won't load the pic for me, you probably need to link the actual page it's on instead.

On a '97, you should have three thrust washers that go behind the axle c-clip (two steel washers, the outer one having splines that engage the axle, and a plastic (Delrin) washer between the two steel ones). The C-clip should be very slightly taller than the splines, and fill the axle groove entirely.

Pre-'95 trucks will have a single thick steel washer with internal splines instead of the three, then the c-clip, but are otherwise the same as far as the hubs/bearings/etc. go.

Hope that helps.
