Refreshing my 1989 Saleen Mustang

nah...im partial to the 90's look of the original 5.0 emblems.

For the Saleen- 306, 10:1 forged pistons, GT40 heads, TF Stage I cam, 1.7 rr, Saleen/Vortech upper (they use a truck lower), 24# injectors, 65mm TB...FTW. Would make an awesome, fun to drive DD and well over 300 hp (more like 325). The Saleen upper is probably going to be an SOB to find but IMO, it would make the car. By the way, does the car still have the Momo steering wheel in it?? That thing would be SWEET with a fresh paint job and new window mouldings.
I've had over a dozen Foxes and am currently rebuilding an 89 GT hatch. My friends think I'm crazy for going back to these cars, but the parts are just so cheap and plentiful, that I just can't help it. They are definitely fun and can be built nicely without breaking the bank by choosing parts wisely. Good luck and keep us posted with pics.

Dido. I was really salivating over the 2011 GT.....maybe more like lusting. Then I got out of my daze and start to thinking these older 5.0's can achieve the 1/4 mile time and HP of the cammer 5.0 with ease. I handled an 05-09 GT a couple months ago with the stuff listed below in my sig. All of my major power adders are JY parts. I paid 225 for my GT40P heads, 100 for my Explorer intake, 60 for my 24 lb. injectors. Now I need to get me some used BBK headers (if anyone has some BBK #1515 headers for sale, hit me up).

I was going to take my old ones in there and have them make a stencil so they are exactly the same size, color, and location. Still no?

I was looking for a Saleen/Vortech upper, I found one a couple of months back. The guy wanted $1000. I will buy a supercharger setup before I pay that much. Eventually though I will give in and buy one, just right now that $1000 could go to alot of other things.

Oh, and the car still have the MOMO steering wheel, with the cruise control brackets. I love the look of it, I also have the 200mph white faced gauges.

If he is a really good airbrush artist, then it would look pretty good. I have seen it done before, and I had to take a second glance to notice that it wasn't an actual emblem

After I slept on it, I remembered my main goal. I want it to be factory for looks, unless it's something I can take off. Strange goal, but it's what I want. I ordered 5.0 Emblems, Ford Emblems, Belt Moldings, Headlight Kit, and Quarter Window covers this morning. I did get the non-amber marker lights though, so I guess that's no so factory......but they look good on all white.

I got a little work done this weekend. Here are some pics of what I have done so far:

First of all, I washed the car up to get the years of dust and debris off:

Here is the engine before:

Here is the engine after I tore it down to inspect it, which by the way, looks great:

Here it is after I cleaned it up to paint the block:

I forgot to snap a picture after I painted the block, but I should get that today. I should also have the heads back today from A&K Machine shop in DeSoto. He was cleaning and pressure testing them, so hopefully everything checks out. I also got the Trick Flow Stage 1 cam installed, now I just need to degree it. Couple more weeks and it should be getting close to being done engine wise.

Excellent, it's looking good. I'm going to follow your build for sure. I'm going to start my own thread on mine. I don't want to jack your thread any more than I have, LOL.

Lol, well I don't care about thread-jacking, I just love these old Foxes so let me know when you get yours going

Right on, I don't mind the thread jacking either. Some people get a swollen colon about it though. I started a thread here if you are interested:

I plan to go take pics about every day they are working on it. He's told me several times that minus the flaking paint that my car is in very good shape for it's age. Unfortunately, the entire time I've owned it, I've had it parked outside. I'm going to have to change that next summer. I am currently searching for a "winter home" for her for this year.

I'm very fond of the 4 eyed Foxes too. I've owned an 85 GT and an 86 GT. My 86 was a fun car. I actually did an AOD to T5 swap in that bad boy. I miss it! :bawling:
