Refreshing my 1989 Saleen Mustang

Hey dhinch279, I was just noticing this is still in the Non RBV Tech section. You should have Jim or a Moderator move it to the Non RBV Build Threads section with the rest of us.

ok..it's your car and you do what's right for you. I'm not hating or flaming or anything like that..

but PLEASE tell me the p.o. already swapped out blocks or downright broke it or something, because if that was the original, matching numbers, engine and it wasn't cracked or anything I'd have paid out of my nose to keep it going. Especially since it's a Saleen, there'd probably be even a possibility of value increase in 10-15 years. Again though, your car your rules!

Sweet mustang you got there.

I'm a fan of anything Ford that's been gone over by a good tuning company. And it's awesome that your dad had your seats overhauled.

Do you know if anyone reproduces those seats in whole form?

They were made by a company called Flofit ( sounds like Flow Fit). That company has since been sold to another company called Seat Source and now they are the ones who sell them. They used to sell for a minimum of $800(a pair?) new, but you can't buy them like they come in the Saleens. The fabric was a Saleen only production and if you do fine an old roll of fabric... plan on retiring early.

They are actually very different from the 85-86 GT seats, however, there are alot of similarities as well. The main difference, IIRC, is that the Flofit seat have a pump up lumbar support (however, it was an option for the GT seats)

Yeah, I've seen GT upholstry kits lol.

I'm sure if any Saleen seats were for sale they'd be very pircey though. People already go batty and snatch up normal Mustang seats as it is.

My seats in the extremely crappy condition they were in before were worth $500-800 for the pair, now they are probably worth $1500-2000 easy to a Saleen guy. If I were going to try to replace them cheaply I would try to locate some Flofits they put in other cars like some older Porsches, BMW's, and some other cars I can't think of (supposedly a handful of Camaro's got a version of these). They are pretty much the exact seat just different tracks so you would have to use your old seat tracks.

I don't know that there's much difference other than the headrest though. If I find some decent 85-86 GT seat, I'm on it. I'd love some of those in mine.

If your interested in the 85-86 GT seats, I would sell you the 3 front seats I have real cheap, shipping might be a little on the high side though.

There wasn't really any way to keep the old block going without a rebuild, it was smoking REALLY bad.
So I pulled it and the transmission to put another block and trans in it. I have 3 engines lined up for this
car at some point. Right now, it's a 44k original mile 1991 mustang 302 engine with a Trickflow Stage 1 cam,
gt40 heads and intake, 65mm throttle body, etc. I have another 1989 302 block bored .30 over that I plan on
stroking to 347(the engine in the beginning of this thread), and I have the original numbers matching engine and trans waiting
for the day the car is worth more money in original condition.
Until then, I am going to enjoy the car the way I want, but please keep in mind anything that I do to this car can be undone back to stock at a later date.

Oh no you miss understand.. I'm for soupups and mods all day long, actually I'm more for souping up the stock engine more then most. Too many people think keeping the stock engine in a numbers matching car means you can't have fun with it..heh:cool:
Anyway though, I'm glad to hear your keeping the matching engine, my nerves are ok now haha. Carry on:icon_welder:

Do you have some pics?

Here is a link to the ad that I have, pay no attention to the price in the ad, if you are interested we will work something out. I would really like to see these eventually end up in a Mustang. I have had local offers for over my asking price, but they want to put them in their Off-Road Jeeps, so I couldn't let them do it. They can get Buckets seats out of an escort for that.

They may be a little rougher than you were wanting, but just let me know if you are interested.

How good are the frames of the seats? I need to look into a rear seat as well. There is the bottom of the rear in one of your pics, I take it you are using it?

As far as I can tell the frames are good and solid. I can tell you for sure that they aren't bent in toward the middle (alot of mustang seats tended to bend in and lean toward the middle of the car). I do have the back seat and it is in PERFECT original condition, but I do plan on keeping it.
