i have an older pc that had a whole wack of pics on it that i lent to my daughter when she moved out(i know-ishould have backed up or burned to disc;that's all water under the bridge now..).anyway,she bruoght the comp back saying it wasn't working so i took it to a local guy who said the hard drive had been cleared, there's nothing left on it.i understand files are still there unless the drive is phisically destroyed, but it's not always easy to recover them.does anyone here know how to do this,or will i need to send it to a big dollar tech in the city?

need a USB connector for one and download recovery software.

got usb connectors all over the place...what about this software;do you know where i can get it and how tough it is to use?i'm better with a sawzall than a computer.when i use a sawzall on a computer they usually dont work so good after.

thanks guys,i hope this works as i have a lot of build pics on that computer.

In the future, get you a 8 or 10 gig memory stick to back your pics and stuff up on. I just got mine in the mail 8 gig from Tom's of Maine???? 17.00 shipped to my casa!

just got the comp back yesterday.been too busy to try it,might tonight.hope it works.

and the plot thickens....i couldn't get the computer to start,so i pulled the hard drive out and tried it in another computer i know works.it goes into auto setup-says primary master detected;primary slave not detected;secondary master:nothing, just a blinking cursor and it says push esc to abort...does nothing.so i plug it's original hard drive back in-works fine.now i get a great idea-theres other plugs there,so i plug in the bad drive while the comp is running on it's original one....it shuts down right away.unplug that drive, hit restart, works fine.so i'm guessing theres something bigger than just being cleared wrong with this drive, but you can hear it spinning up the disk so i at least know that part is good.where to go from here?
