Recommendations for a reasonably priced impact socket set, 3/8 and 1/2"?

Well the adapter is nothing new, but I'm surprised the socket let go that easily.

Probably a dollar late and day short, but I've had fantastic luck with the Great Neck impact stuff (You can pick it up at Autozone). I have yet to break one of those while abusing the heck out of them. And I'm not nice to them either

The quality seems to be a bit better than the Craftsman set I have (The great neck stuff just seems to fit on the nut/bolt better). I have yet to break a Craftsman one either though. That might just be due to the fack that I tend to reach for the Great Neck set instead.

Mabey I just got a good set, but that doesn't sound right. Is that set the older us set or a newer china set?

My friends a I have had lots of good luck with the Harbor Freight brand. One buddy used them in a shop to remove keys from peoples wheels. Another uses his at home and likes to beat everything with his Snapon impact with no problems. Your looking at ~$20 a set, and they have a lifetime warranty as well.

i went to harbor freight and got mine, metric and standard for $9.99 a set and they have a lifetime warranty

X2 and I have never broken an harbor freight impact socket, even with putting 6ft cheaters on a breaker bars ill snap bolts off before the socket breaks.

Needless to say I don't trust Harbor Freight sockets.

With cheap tools its a hit or miss. Just saying from personal experience I've never broken one.

The guys in the shop at work all have pretty much Snap-on, Mac or Matco impact sockets. Stuff breaks but it is rare. They have Craftsman wrenches and chrome sockets... they seem to hold up about as good as anything.

This is a farm repair shop... warrentys are tested.

Me being a cheap DIY guy with a wheezy impact gets along just find dinking around with my truck and once in awhile tractor project with Wally-World Stanley deepwell impact sockets. I recently picked up both sets of standard depth Harbor freight sockets on sale but I haven't had a chance to try them.

Just to see if they were as bad as people say they are I did use my Harbor Freight open end wrench set to do my engine swap for the most part. They didn't falter, even locking them together to double leverage.

The tool trucks come around more often (normally once a week) than I make it to the big city for either Sears or Harbor Freight though. That said I can count the number of Snap On tools I have on one hand and don't have any Mac... fixing your own crap doesn't pay that well.
