Receiver winch capacity question.

I’ve always seen that the minimum recommended winch is double the weight of the vehicle it’s intended to be used on or whichever is closest in rating that is above that doubled amount.

For Rangers, that is typically 9,000#

i had a 5500 on my wrangler with the 302 and c6 in it. it worked great and i never had to use my snatch block. i would think you could get by with a 5500 pound winch from tractor supply or a harbor freight badlands winch and just get a snatch block or two.

those badlands winches did really well when one of the 4x4 magazines did a winch comparison with warn and the other name brand winches. it came out second best of all of them

The 12k winch I have on my car trailer is a new style Badlands winch. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the winch itself, it's a brute. The controller is a cheap piece of crap. I should research other controller options...it's too bad, a good winch paired with an awful controller. I would definitely consider buying another one of these.

The old Badlands winches were absolute junk. I am talking about the 8k and maybe the 10k ones from about 8-10 years ago. They would basically fall apart if you put a load on them, watched a guy destroy a brand new one the first time it was used.
