just got my 84 back from a complete rebuild. had to take it back to the shop right after the kid brought it home. they had the timing all screwed up. this time it runs a little better, but seems to be running hot and still rough in my opinion. i thought it would have more power too, but seems about the same as before even though it's been bored. is this normal? i am no mechanic (just basics), but i thought after being bored, with new rods, bearings etc. that it would run close to new. personally i think the smog garbage has a lot to do with it, but i am wondering just what i should expect from a total rebuild? any ideas??

if it was completly rebuilt and bored it should run like new if not better than new

Was your '84 2.9L swapped, or does it have a 2.8L?

Pete

far as i know the thing is original and a 2.9L. i have talked to the original owner and i don't think he swapped it. i will ask the shop when i talk to them to see what they say.

If it's a 2.9L, it will say so on the upper plenum and will be EFI. If it has a carb, you have a 2.8L. 1984 Rangers came w/ 2.8Ls.
