When I place my Choke pull-down diaphragm to my mouth and suck it shut, it does NOT hold a vacuum, I got to keep sucking.. Is the diaphragm shot?

Also when I took my carburetor:icon_twisted: apart, it has "moldy looking" buildup everywhere, is this from bad gas or is this normal?

Also considerable gunk buildup in the power valve, the truck was suffering from severe hesitation.

And one last question, how do I soak the main carburetor body in Cleaner? The "paint can" is not big enough to fit the main body of the carb, will it be OK for me to use a muti-purpose bucket, the carb cleaner won't eat thru it?

get a kit and soak it in acetone or carb cleaner overnite after you take it apart dont put any ribber parts in the solvent and good to pull the jets use a big screwdriver so you dont damage them they are usually pretty tite. put a new choke pulloff and depending on your carb is there a carb number on the metal plate in front of the choke or a metal tag screwed down with the air horn on top. Use that number for the kit you need. After you soak it spray it good with water and blow all the ports dry with air including the venturi cluster but dont take the throttle plates out you will be sorry. When you take it apart lay all the parts on a table and save all the gaskets so you how you took it apart. When you pull the venturi booster out turn it upside down with your hand under it to catch the accelerator pump check ball and weight dont lose the weight but you will get a new ball in the kit. when you go to put it together match the new gaskets with the old and assemble reverse how you took it apart keeping everything clean. dont worry you will have extra parts. a bucket will work fine for soaking in just put a lid on it or it will evaporate fairly quick. normally the dry float level will usually work but dont tighten the top on the carb if you are going to do a wet float adjust you do that on the engine after you start it. If you remember where the choke was set you shouldnt have to mess with it so take your time fuel is important and if you have any Qs ask and make sure what your doing. guessing with fuel is like guessing with brakes dont do it if your not sure.
