It just depends on what your going to be doing with your vehicle, meaing towning, crawling, daily driver, etc...

it is gonna be a streetable trail truck , be able to drive to events and then wheel , then drive home

hi,, doing the same build at moment using the 410. from what I have read and researched the 422 needs high compression heads and will be needing more modding to compensate for the high compression that will be made. I am under the impression the 422 increases the compression into the 11/12 range were as the 410 will only increase the compression enough to give you the option to keep stock heads. i stand to be corrected if this is not true.

cheers

For your application

i need everyones opinion of the 2 cams that are available from summit for the 4.0 , i know nothing about cams , so any help is appreciated

number 1
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-49-422-8/

number 2
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-49-410-8/

if i get either of these will i have to change my lifters ?

I would go with the 49-410-8 It should have a bit more bottom end and mid range than the 422. More rpm isn't what one would want for streeting an off road vehicle.

I really doubt the truth of your thoughts. Cam companys would have a lot of trouble selling cams that didn't do what they advertised. If, indeed, a certain cam would require different heads or other parts the cam company would be certain to advertise that as a fact when selling a particular camshaft.

A cam will not change the compression of the engine nor does it need more compression than stock to work correctly.
If you look at the cam specs of both cams they arent all that "aggressive". As said before, the 410 cam will produce more torque than the factory cam and not fall off as fast in the higher rpms. The 422 cam will shift the power curve up alittle more and pull hard up near 6000 rpms with the correct mods. Both cams offer a torque peak around 3000 rpms. The 422 cam requires upgraded valve springs.

too bad the ohv readlines at like 4900:headbang:

My eclipse has a red line of 7000, but I've shifted over 8000 rpm before....

Point being, while the OHV engine is not made to rev high, with the correct cam to allow sufficient air in the combustion chamber, it can rev over 5000 rpm and pull hard. Tell that to this guy, who happens to be a member on this board.....

Thats almost like saying because the speedometer is "clocked for", or more accurately said "only goes up to" 85 mph, thats all the faster it will go...
