so another 1 of my ideas is to completeoy rebuild my 4o i want to do some minor performance upgrades like cams and maybe a crank im wondering what some of you have put into your v6 and how much it set you back and how much hp your running now

Check out a site called "SuperSix Motor Sports." They have performance heads with reground cams.

Factory rods and crank are actually quite good - add some decent hypereutetic pre 95 pistons for a bump in compression, Comp Cams 422 camshaft with appropriate valvesprings and headwork for them, a set of headers and you'll actually make some nice power out of the 4.0 OHV due to the nice increase in breathing. Total cost shouldn't be any more than 1k for the 50+ rwhp you'll pick up.

154K miles isn't anything for a modern engine... As long as it's been maintained properly you could easily get another 100K miles out of it... Mine has 170K on it and runs perfectly, I picked up a junkyard engine to rebuild from the crank up, but I'm taking my time, if the 4.0 in my Explorer goes before 200K miles, I'll be very surprised... Once I put my rebuilt 4.0 into my Explorer I'm going to build up the block that's in my Explorer now with a stroker crank and maybe set it up for a turbo application and drop it into my 2000 2wd Ranger... Morano (or something like that) has some performance internals you can get, I haven't completely decided on what I'm doing yet, so I don't know specifics...

o i know 154 isnt too bad it runs so strong im sure i can get to 300 i was thinking i should rebuild it before it goes out or should i just wait for it to go out then rebuild it?

Well, I picked up a block from the JY and am bulding it up from the ground up... That way when it does go I won't have my truck down for weeks rebuilding the engine... I picked mine up for $50...
