I'm in the market for a rebuild kit for a 2.3. Preferably a master kit. Any good place to get a quality one for....wait for it....cheap.

Cheapest I've found is flatlanders kit for $400.

On what part of the planet are you needing these parts?

US or Canada

If you will be having the head machined I would check with the machine shop, they often can get good deals on quality rebuild kits.

And nothing wrong with discount parts.............unless, of course, you have a problem, lol.

I need U.S. I am having the head milled down, the shop said I was lookin at about $450 for theirs. I don't really have too much of an issue with discount parts. I'm just a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" is all.

Also, I'm actually buying a parts truck to yank the motor from. Mine is an 85 and I have the option of buying an 87 (which has an Identical motor to mine) or an 88 (which is the same except for the roller cam). Is it possible to mix and match cams between the two? or does the roller have to stay roller and solid have to stay solid? The reason I ask is because the flatlander kit for the 88 is $700 while the 87 is $400.

That is what I have used for about 6 of these rebuilds. (I used to race a four banger mustang on dirt

I got most of my rebuild parts from rockauto.com

My head had a slider cam in it originally, you can swap to a roller cam by just swapping the followers with it everything else is the same...

There are kits on eBay in the $250-$300 range. Dunno about the quality though...
