2.3L ('83-'97) Rebuild a 2.3 without all the sensors or replace with a carbureted

I am considering my options to rebuild or replace my 1988 fuel injected 2.3. My thinking is find an older carbureted 2.3 without all the sensors and squeeze a little more hp out of it. Anybody have some success or advice to share along these lines?

in the tech library, the writeup on the lima 4 banger family has info on what years which mustangs got rollers, etc etc - you could use that info to help find a more ideal donor.

There is no category for 4 cylinder swaps really (cause unlike the V8's and some of the V6's) it is just turning bolts, no fab, no parts switching required, but there is 3 articles on turbo swapping in / adding turbo/ wiring. If turbo's tickle your fancy:
