Rear window mods

Also the frame around the window is quite a bit larger. I might have to see about picking one up and do some engineering.

I was contemplating the dilemma of air flow vs debris flying into cab while at work (big orange box). I was showing a customer a storm door with a self retracting screen and bam it hits me, why not do that on a my rear window. The only thing I couldn't figure out was how the sides of the screen stay in the track. I think it would be pretty sweet.

I went to a local junkyard and was looking though parts, found a 98+ ranger rear slider and decided to pick it up. Cost me $25, and about 10 mins to remove. I tried to keep the seal together but it ripped and I was wondering what I could use to replace that seal. I might attempt to put it in my truck today if I can replace the seal.

Would silicone caulk work or is there something specific I need to use?

I wold not use anything but a factory seal. 1). Safety issues. 2) You will only have to put it in once and you won't have to reseal it later. Check and see if your local auto parts store has one, or can get you one ASAP.

Good to know, would I be able to use the one on my fixed glass if I can keep it intact?

I am not 100% sure but If I remember correctly I looked the parts up at a local dealer a few years back for a friend's Ranger when I conveted his sold rear window into a slider and the part numbers were different. Maybe somebody else here can see if I am right or wrong.

I'll give advance, auto zone and o'reilly's a call. They might be able to tell me, if not I can get the right part and get this done.

Edit: Called the three and got the same thing from all. Call a glass shop. Looked one up and its closed for the day. Guess I'll have to wait a couple more days to put it in.

How about making your rear window flip up like mine.

For some reason, my mind is blown.

Nothing new. Why haven't I thought of that on MY Ranger?

.

It's a pretty sweet idea, grafting the back end of a b2 like that. It looks really good.

I called a couple places about a seal and the general price was around $60. I'll have to call around and see what I can come up with. I know it wouldn't ideal, but maybe some rubber weather seal and adhesive would do the trick, if I can't reuse the one on my truck.

It can also change to 2 tone blue and primer gray! :D

So I went to auto zone after reading a write up on replacing the rear window and found the ribbon sealer I needed to get the job done for $15. Long story short I installed the rear slider with some difficulty. Reg cabs have little space to work comfortably. Also I switched out my visors for ones with lighted mirrors, no power to them yet. I'll probably wait to do that when I get an overhead console. I'll try to upload a pic if I can.

Heres the pic of my back window finished.
