Rear window mods

That's what I was thinking straycat, I wouldn't go with anything too big. Maybe about the same size as stock fog lights. I was also thinking about using the rear wiper switch as a selector for the # of lights I have on.

Yes, that should be ok. Are you going to use the mounts that come with the lights? Maybe use some kind of adhesive in the drilled holes before you but the screws in. That would strengthen the mounting area. A silicon adhesive would be good. Anybody else have an idea on this to strengthen the mounting area?

My concern and i have seen it is the relection on the hood and the front of the hood blocking the bottom of the light beam. Fogs are way more effective down low on the bumper so they can flood the area right in front of you. Having say a flat black hood helps with the reflection part but nothing you can do about the front of the hood blocking light. just my thoughts.

I'd probably try to make some brackets that could be adjusted, possibly with a guard on the bottom to direct the light away from the hood. Could also mold and recess them into the visor itself.

Coming back to the sport trac rear window, I keep looking for the technical specs to do a comparison with the ranger rear window. Another thing I was thinking was building a track and moving the existing window inside the cab and latch it at the top. Also instead of using the powered components of the sport trac use a latch.

I saw a Toyota at a minitruck show a few months ago with a power rear window..

can't really see much but heres a pic of it, it had a 302 in it and independent rear suspension as well.

That's pretty cool, I'll have to try and find it and see if I can a build thread on it.

How about making your rear window flip up like mine.

This is cool. I've been thinking about something like this. I don't think it would be terribly hard to accomplish.

That is pretty cool rico, have you got a build thread for that? I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to do. I'm looking into different options.

there is a link to my thread at the bottom of my posts.

I checked you're build thread and I don't have the skill or tools to attempt grafting something onto the back of my truck. I'm sure I could build hinges and what not onto the back. I really want to find something a little easier than cutting and welding.

It seems no matter where I look, short of physically measuring, I can't find the specs on a sport trac rear power window. Might have to pm someone who has a sport trac.

Have to go to the local yards and start tearing stuff apart. Hopefully I'll have some money to do that here soon.

I've always felt my sliding rear window offers more than enough air flow with it open and the front windows open or just barely cracked. The only problem with opening my slider is if there is anything in the bed it just sucks all that loose debri through the rear window. I mow yards all summer so there is always a little bit of grass or leaves in the bed. I've thought about putting a screen on the inside, but haven't figured out how to do so without it looking rigged.

I'll have to put some though into this...

I would think a glass business could install a factory slider for a $100-200 if you find a used sliding rear window for your truck.

I've seen diagrams and pictures of ranger rear windows, theres only a few screws that hold the window in. Though it's been said already in this thread that the sport trac window is a different size. I want to know how much different they are from each other.

A slider would work, but I want something more than a stock upgrade.

I got bored so I decided to see if I could figure this out. here's what i found.

here is an 03 Ranger. notice theat the bed is at the same height as the bottom of the side windows.

here's an 03 Sport trac. see how the bed sits higher than on the Ranger? making the window smaller. Judging by these pics I don't think a Sport trac rear window would work.
