Well, Today I just snapped my 2 week old rear window latch. Great... Is there a way to make a stronger rear window latch? I'm tired of buying new ones.

i can't even buy one :(

missing a trim piece.

There is a thread somewhere on TRS about buying the stronger later model latch. They call out the Ford part number and tell how to install it. You should be able to find it with a thread search. The photo of the latch looks very substantial. I remember the price was right too.:icon_cheers:

As a cheap alternative, they have replacement latches on Ebay for under $10. I bought one and it works fine.

If you are just worried about security, you can cut a piece of wood dowel and jamb it against the window edge like they do with patio windows.

Should fit on OP's fine from what I understand. I'm not sure on a Gen 1, or what trim piece you mean that's longer in your cab.

The article is here. Mine just came in yesterday and was missing a piece, so I don't have much more to offer yet.

i've seen the article, but it doesn't talk about replacing the actual trim piece that you screw the latch on to.

that's all that is holding me back from:

1) putting a latch (let alone a new/more secure/attractive latch)
2) taking off my camper shell
3) feeling safe about leaving anything in my truck

i want a TIGHT fitting assembly, as i don't want rattling down the road when i amp and sub my reg cab.

I just bought a window from, I would say, a 93-95 truck, from the junkyard. I put it in my truck, and realized the latch was broke. I drilled a couple of holes in my 1997 latches, and they fit and work great. I used the old latches as templates to drill the holes.
