I thought that leaf-sprung vehicles don't need sway bars. Is it there just to handle turns when there is a heavy load?

Thanks.

I cut mine out ages ago.

Any kind of suspension needs a sway bar, it isn't exclusive of leaf spring types. They exist to control body roll in relation to the suspension, so that the occupants don't "feel" like their vehicle is going to tip over, and to keep the vehicle's body more level in relation to the road.

If your implied question is can you take the rear sway bar off, yes you can it does next to nothing on Rangers, except for limit a little tiny bit of flex. Toss it and be done with it :) You most likely won't be able to tell the difference.

to build on what others have said, i left mine on, even though my truck has a 3" BL and 33"s, reason is, i WANT it to limit the rear end flex... as it is, i've flexed the tire right into my flares...

Okay, then I guess I'll just take it off.

Thanks. :icon_thumby:

Toss it and scrap it, hell I don't run a front sway bar and with the wide tires I don't feel any difference in turns.

can you take a couple pics of it and send to me before you cut it off? i'm needing to put one on and not sure how exactly it mounts up. thanks.

Whoa whoa no cutting! Two 15 mm bolts on each side with a little U-bolt that hold it to the axle and one 18mm bolt on each side that mounts to the sway bar link.

Unfortunately, I took it off before I saw this, but you really can't miss it. It's the bar that runs across the axle and has links mounting it to the frame on both sides. Just follow those links down and you'll see the bar.

Mine is off now, but I haven't driven it yet.
