rear main seals on 93 ranger

I have a 93 with a 3.0 which should mean my tran is a m50d-r1. Can you tell me how to replace rear seal. Is this done from outside (no removal of tran or engine) or do you have to remove the tran.

screwed up. My engine is a 2.3. I think this changes nothiing. Correct? Tran still has to come off?
