The other day, I took the brake drum off of the driver side of my truck. I was getting a look at everything that I'm going to be up against in a couple days. While looking over everything, I noticed that the hub had a slight amount of in/out play in it. Nothing major, just noticeable. Once I remounted the wheel and tightened the lug nuts back down, I checked the play again and could still notice it. Is this something that can be fixed by replacing the bearing?

no, its normal for a semi-floating(c-clip) axle.

Thanks Brutus. I didn't check the passenger side to compare it. I just figured I would ask here.

The play you are seeing is play between the Axle shaft, C-clip
axle pinion gear(outward motion) and spider gear cross shaft
(inward motion)

with an open diff rear axle there is nothing you can do about it.

with a limited slip axle you can adjust things to the point where
the shaft simply cannot move.

And the process that accomplishes that leaves the limited slip
in a condition that makes a Frog's ass look like the Lincoln tunnel.
