Hi All,

I have a 2011 RCSB and would like to swap the solid rear window for one with a slider.

I found a slider out of a 1997 with eight studs (3 top, 3 bottom, 1 on each side). As I'm removing the solid window in the truck, I see that it has ten studs (5 top, 3 bottom, 1 on each side).

When did they change?

And, can I use an 8 bolt in place of a 10 bolt?

TIA, Dave.

It's probably like the bed bolts and they just added some so you likely just have some extra holes with the normal ones in the same spot, I've looked into window changes a few times and haven't heard anything about it that stood out in memory...

You're right @scotts90ranger. Ford added two studs on the top of the rear backlight. Otherwise, the remaining eight studs line up just fine.

I forgot what a mess butyl tape can cause......... yuck.

Still curious as to when Ford added two studs though.

They made a few random changes in '07 (big center emblem on tailgate, possibly extra bed bolts but don't remember, different side mirrors) and some more in '09 (rear disc brakes and different ABS sensors) for whatever reason, someone will chime in later I'm sure

If you got your window out of a 97 regular cab, it won't work in the 2011. They are different sizes I believe. 93 to 97 extended cab rear windows should work, and any cab configuration from 98 to 11 will work

Yes, the 8 bolt window will fit in the 10 bolt cab

The 10 bolt window will also fit in the 8 bolt cab you just need to drill the 2 added holes for the studs

1983 thru 1997 REGULAR cab windows are the same and used a Gasket to hold them in, no bolts/studs

1998 to 2011 Regular cab used same bolt in windows as extended cabs
1986 to 2011 Extended cabs use the same bolt in rear windows

As said 8 bolt up to 2006 or so then 10 bolt after that, but interchangeable
Just need to add 2 holes if its a 10 bolt going into a 2005 or older

A 1986 extended cab rear window will work in a 2011 Ranger regular or extended cab
Or in a 1998 thru 2011 Ranger, regular or extended cab

my spare back window is out of a regular cab..single slider. and it was an electric truck at that. i thought it was a 95, but dont remember. i know they changed the cabs in 98...so it must have been a 98...i thought it was strange it had a bolt in window...but it was electric...and had alot of strange stuff going on.....and i wreck them alot so its in the spare pile. the type of lights it had i thought it was older.

Lol, I have a spare in stock too, need to get a spare in stock for the '90, I have TWO broken slider windows for it but they have the same broken pane (turns out there was metal on the passenger seat frame contacting the one pane... not good on spirited driving with a passenger...). Labor day I might take a trip to get some spare stuff...

Well, with the 2011 model year Ranger, I guess I got all the goodies (including an 8.8 rear diff with 4.10 gears, in an XL )

I saw a pic before I had the p.o. yank it out of his '97 Ranger SuperCab. (y)

I installed it yesterday without issue (except cleaning up the old butyl tape which gets EVERYWHERE ). I used 3/8" tape and I can see why some recommend using 5/16" tape. But, if you push the thicker tape down some, so that it's more oval than round and don't allow it to interfere with the base of the studs, it goes in fine and the outer window trim will sit flush.

my glass guy calls that "activating" the butyl. Its better to use a thicker rope and squish it down some.
