I have a 98 Ford ranger with a 7.5 4.10 with 10 inch drums that is shot, have a parts rig with 7.5 4.10 with 9 in drums will it be a straight swap, what would I need to do to keep the 10in?

All you have to do is pull the backing plates to swap everything... can be done without bleeding the brakes...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the axles have to be pulled in order to change the backing plates?

But otherwise as far as the backing plate itself, it really is as simple as taking out the 4 bolts and switching them. They'll fit.

Well yes, you have to take the diff cover off, pull the cross pin retaining pin/bolt, pull the cross pin, push in axle shafts to remove C clips then pull the axle shafts out to get to the backing plates and their 4 bolts...
