okay guys went to junk yard today , my rear end assembly blew out of my truck , well i snapped all the gears and stuff in my diff out . but i really am not for sure what gears and everything are in there and or what will interchange with my year ,,

i have a 92 v6 4.0 4x4 ranger single cab , they were shootin me all these diffr4ent things i thought id ask before i did this again ,,

what is my gearing , my pinion size and what size rotors and all that do i ave on my stock ranger , really need to know cause they are sellin it all one bundle 75$ pretty cheap , for whole rear end ,

thanx forthe helpguys appreciate it

With the 4.0 it came with the 8.8 setup. The rear housing is supposed to have a plate on it that tells you the size of the rear and the grearing. Every Bronco II and every Ranger I have owned had had the plate on the rear end.

look on the tag on your drivers side door. listed under "axle" will be a 2 digit code. cross reference that code to the tech library. it should be an 8.8 with drums, could be 9" or 10" drums. if youre getting a replacement, it wouldnt hurt to go bigger but smaller would work too if thats all you can find. same thing with the diff, open is fine (and better if you plan on installing a locker some day) but a l/s rear would bolt right in and would be a good upgrade for a street truck

well l/s you meaning what? im confused on that part, and ill look i havent been too much under the truck havent been real woried about it but will all be replaced this week so its cool . thankl you guys for the help i really appreciate it .

i am doing anonroad off road truck , type , got new 31's to go one , with jeep rims i just didnt want nothing too small or too large of a gear ratio that my truck would lag or have too much for the 4.0.

You are going to have to stay with the gear ratio that's in there now or have to regear the front also. Good luck!

Limited slip is like a locker, but it lets the rear act like a regular open rear when you are turning or something.

Just like anything else, it's good until it breaks. Then it's expensive.

hahahah , good and fun until it breaks then it gets expensive thats funny but seems to never fail .. someone told me an 8.8 is the same in a mustang? prolly not the same gearing but ... i got the tag numbers jsut help me discifer so i cna do this liek tomorro .. thanxxx yall

top of the tag says

top "s328c"
bottom "27 88 1j06"

On that bottom line there is probably a "3" hiding under the bolt head

3.27 geared 8.8 open.
