i just replaced the rear in my ranger and the drum off my old rear doesnt fit does this sound rite mine is a 00 3.0 with 3.73 and 7.5 the one i got today was a 99 with a 3.0 and 3.73 and 7.5 i thought they were the same any help is appreciated

too small or too big?

Then you had 10" brakes on your old axle, and the new one has 9" brakes.

You can swap the backing plates and brake from your old axle to the new axle.

would it be hard to transfer im not that good with disk brakes but i sure would like to learn and will i have to remove the axle shafts and everything how hard is it directions would be helpful and is it bad to drive without the drums on just to bolt the tire to the axle thanks again

Do not try to drive it without drums on the back. There will be nothing to keep the wheel cylinders from over extending and blowing the pistons out resulting in a loss of brakes.

You would have to pull the axle shafts to swap the backing plates. Its just 4 bolts on each side and 1 brake line fitting that need to be removed to take the entire backing plate/brake shoe/ wheel cylinder assembly off. Or you could just buy drums for the 9" brakes and say the hell with it.

i already drove the truck it wasnt even for a mile but i noticed there were no breaks lol is there anything i should check to see if i messed up and ill probably go back to the junkyard and get the other drums thanks

You probably need new wheel cylinders now.

When you hit the brake your cylinder pistons probably popped out and possibly spewed brake fluid everywhere... i would check them to see if anything is wet... and it your paint or rims are wet with fluid get that stuff off fast!!!!!!!

In that case i think you are going to need new cylinders and shoes if any got on them... basically looking at all new back brake now i would imagine...

thanks for the help i just got a new rear when i went to the junkyard again and im going to return the old one but i havent got to test drive it yet cause when i turn the wheel the truck shakes really bad. i just got the rear done and now i have this problem you can never win
p.s. the truck shakes bad while turning even when its sitting still and just turning the wheel

sounds like air in the power steering system.
