Replacing rear shoes on my '93 Super w/ 9" drums. Whoever did the last replacement really screwed up. Both primary shoes on one side, parking brake bar not positioned correctly, etc. so I don't want to use his work as a guideline. When I bought a new hardware kit, included were clips I normally associate with attaching the parking brake arm pivot to the brake shoe. Both Chilton and Haynes refer to these clips. I'm confused. The parking brake arms seem to attach to the shoe via a tab inserted into a hole in the web of the shoe, not to the usual post. Are these clips unnecessary or am I just not seeing how they would be used?

Are you taking about the horseshoe shaped clips?

You insert the park brake lever through the hole in the brake shoe, then put the horseshoe clip around the pin on the park brake lever and pinch the 2 ends of the horseshoe together with side cutters or pliers to hold the lever onto the shoe.

You can see what I'm talking about in the upper right, just above the coils of the yellow spring.

Just remember, short shoe to the front, longer shoe to the rear.

The configuration on my brakes appears slightly different than on the posted pic. The top of the parking brake actuating arm forms a notched tab at right angles to the arm. This tab is inserted into the brake shoe through a trapezoidal hole in the web of the shoe. I don't see how this arrangement could accommodate the clip. The posted picture shows a round post or pin. That is what I have seen in the past but does not describe the setup on my '93.
