rear drive shaft

need help please. the four u-joint strap bolts that hold the rear drive shaft to the small shaft that has the carrier bearing is what size ???? i use to have it but some tools of mine were stolen can't seem to figure out it mic's out at around 7.84 mm or .308 in. anybody know what size wrench ???? thanks oh the truck is a 1993 ford ranger 4x4 super 4.0 auto

It's 8mm. Oh, and after you remove those straps, you'll find a big 15/16" nut inside that yoke. It needs to come off to get to the center bearing itself. Good luck getting that pesky bearing off that splined shaft with a puller.

yeah thanks i thought it was 5/16 but that was a little loose so i went to napa picked up a 8mm for the cap bolts and a 12mm 12 point for the others. i'm going to write that down in my work manual ! i wish they would list that stuff. well thanks again!!!!

oh by the way i took it to my ford dealer by my house they are going to change it out for me for 55.00 that's worth it to me for sure.

Good price! That's the price of the bearing itself. No charge for labor?

Speaking of rear drive shafts...I have what seems to be a metal piece loose inside mine, doesn't hinder performance or cause any issues, just annoying metal clicking sound at lower speeds and also the differentials front seal is bad

Might be a weld blob. Saw that problem several times on bicycle frames. If there's any kind of access hole, or breather hole, (maybe on one end, behind a u-joint?) you can try and draw it out with a strong magnet.

Anything that's welded should have, at minimum, at least one little vent hole for gases generated in the welding process.
