I just replaced everything in the rear brakes of my 04 2wd accept the drums. And the rear brakes do the same thing they did before,,, when I jump on the brakes they work good and then (about 1/2 second later) without changing pedal pressure the rears grab a lot harder. I know the 2010s have rear disc brakes. How hard would it be to swap over to rear disc brakes and still have ABS?

You would need the entire 2010 + rear axle as the disc brakes and mounting flanges on them are different than anything else ford has put out.

So....you could either swap an entire 2010+ rear axle under the truck (wouldn't work with your ABS as it was designed for traction control and does not use a single VSS mounted to the top of the diff housing)

Or you can install a 95-01 explorer 8.8 with disc brakes....this will work with your abs as it uses the same VSS in the top of the diff.

The other option is to do the mustang disc brake swap. There is some cutting of the brackets involved and also different e brake cables. Do a search for it on here....there has been a couple threads about it.

Unless you have a FX4 package, then your ranger has a 28 spline axle, which is smaller than the 31 spline explorer axle, and the flange is different...

The brake swap shown in that linked thread is for an older twin-I-beam front. Mine is the newer double A-arm front suspension.

lol....

I think he's got the info covered between this thread, and the one on the other site. Three good ways of getting discs- the new rearend, the Ex, and Mustang parts.

Not sure we have a moderator in the V-8 section, but you and the "Bad" one ought to be included.
