Well it has come time to do my rear brakes and the auto parts store wants to know if they are 9 or 10 inch in size, wouldn't my truck have the larger size because it has 4 wheel ABS and the truck was factory ordered with all the bells and whistles including tow package. Or should I not be assuming I have the larger brakes, meaning the 10's over the 9's.

1996 ford ranger 4.0 4x4 supercab STX ( loaded )

Edit: can I call the dealer and give them my vin and they will be able to tell me on what size? or was the auto parts guy full of BS about the vin and dealer.

Don't chance spending the time, money and energy on assumptions. Check for yourself. You never know when a previous owner changed something. It only takes a few minutes to pull a wheel and check.

4.0 with 8.8 is 10 inch. the 9 inch is the 7.5 axle

your right sry but if you have a 4.0 and 8.8 there 10 inches

hell no 4.0 has an 8.8 only 7.5 came with the 3.0 and smaller motors

BUWHWHAHHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh oh, I mean ..... +1. :icon_thumby:

Screw that whole measuring shit:thefinger: now that everybody has CONFIRMED that my ( 1996 4.0 4x4 supercab ) could not possibly have a 7.5 axle then I know for sure I have 10 brakes PERIOD!! So I will go buy the 10's and be done with it.

Thanks all!!!!

Can't run a 96, its too only. 10 years or newer!! Oh, and just because it's you Ranger, they are 9 inch.

tell us if we are wrong lol

Yes, please tell us what you find.

I personally couldn't care about being "right" or "wrong" because my suggestion is nothing of that sort. I am just curious to know for sake of further confirmation of the fact (in the case of your truck and your truck only lol).
