rear brake pads wearing unevenly

when I pulled the drums off the other day I noticed that one pad had barely an 1/8" left and the one on the other side still had about 1/4" left. why is that?
 
what type of brake system do you have? is it self energizing or leading trailing.
 
It's normal, The primary(small/front) shoe engages the secondary(larger/rear) shoe, which does 95% of your rear braking.

Drum brakes don't work by evenly squeezing, they essentially just ''jam'' up and cock sideways.

You'll also notice that they are very inefficient while moving rearward. And that the parking brake doesn't work to well when the truck is facing uphill.
 
Ah, I was thinking he was talking about different sides of the vehicle, not the same side.
