Just finished my yearly brake fluid change. Again I struggled with the rear bleeder screws. Ford made these too short to clear the wheel cylinder bolt heads properly with a standard wrench.

I have had to make a custom bend to my 3/8 brake line wrench to give me clearance to turn the screw and clear the bolt heads. The wrench bend makes it hard to turn the screw as the angle is wrong and so the wrench tips and binds.

A longer bleeder screw would allow a standard wrench and better access.

Anyone solved this and sourced a longer bleeder? Anyone know the thread size?

Most parts stores sell a brake bleeder wrench with that bend already in it. When I can't find mine I just break the bleeder loose with a socket then use a straight wrench for opening/closing. Then tighten again with socket.

Yes I do the 1/4" drive deep socket to loosen the bleeder. I also have the off the shelf "bent" line wrench but it was not enough to clear the bolt heads.

If I knew the thread pitch I could just look for a longer bleeder.

Other possible is to custom make deep socket with room for rubber hose down center to connect to my suction machine.

Solved

Found the perfect bleeder wrench. Lisle, part # 10900. 6 point, 5/16" and 3/8".

Allows me to turn the bleeder open/close while my MightVac connection is in place.

I know the bleeder wrench in my HF drum brake set (the good kind in a box, not the crap kind in clamshell plastic) worked fine on my drums. FWIW, I have the 9" drums.
