i got a 78' f250 dana 44. picked it up last weekend. i was planning on narrowing it, but it looks just wide enough:D.

so i need to find a full width rear end to match the front.

my question is, what rear ends will match that front end? i know the f250 came with a dana 60 rear, but what else is wide enough? will a 1/2 ton 9" rear end work?

Yes, it is, but the problem is, is that all 9" were 5 lug, you have an 8 lug front...

Could convert the D44 over to a 5-lug, then get an F-150 8.8" or 9" to match that.

I run a 79 F150 D44 and a 89 F150 8.8 in the rear. They match up nicely.

i am planning on swiching it to 5 lug. so either f150 rear ends will work right? btw, my f250 axle has warn premiums. will they fit the 5 lug stuff? and im gonna be selling all the 8 lug stuff. everything from the knuckle out. what should i ask for it? its in good shape.

You can keep the 8 lug knuckle (which has flat tops btw), all you need is the spindle, hub, caliper bracket and caliper, and rotor...lockouts will fit either hub...

i thought the 1/2 ton stuff wont bolt up to the 3/4 ton knuckle????

i dont know about the spindle bolt patterns but i thought the 1/2 ton brakes wont clear the 3/4 ton knuckle without serious modifications??? :icon_confused:

I have the knuckle, spindle, rotor, caliper bracket and calipers for both the 8 lug (3/4 ton) and the 5 lug (1/2 ton), but I won't be able to look at it til this weekend, to be for sure...

dont bother. i just found it. its on Mr.N's axle website.

it has a picture of both the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton knuckles side by side.

there is a big notch in the 1/2 ton knuckle that clears the caliper mount, the 3/4 ton doesnt have it.

so the 3/4 ton knuckle wont clear the 1/2 ton brakes.

Thats wierd, I bolted up the 1/2 ton hubs I had to the 8 lug 44 I have.. :dunno:
