I need to replace my axle shafts and bearings. I have a 99 Ranger with a 4.0 so I assume I have an 8.8 rear end. The axles I am looking into say they fit 7.5" / 8.8" is there any difference, will I need to specify which axle when ordering?

Thanks.

im pretty sure there is a difference in splines. best to remove the axles and count the splines. and look at the axle id tag on the diff cover to figure exactly what axle you have. and look on the door jamb tag for axle code

The later 7.5 shafts are the same as the 8.8 shafts. I'm not sure what year the break falls on though.

My axle code is 97 so it should be an open 8.8" with 4.10 gearing. Which would be 28 spline I'd guess? I was mainly worried about whether or not the axle shafts were the same for 7.5 and 8.8 because they aren't very descriptive about them in the catalogs.

Thanks.

any '93 and up ranger (excluding FX4 level 2) axle has the same shafts, aside from the drivers and passenger being different lengths...
