So i picked up a new rear axle, its an 8.8 31 spline. I found sand in the axle tubes so im completely tearing it down to get it cleaned. Im also gonna replace the bearings. The problem is that i cant get the bearings outof the end of the tubes. The guys at the shop told me how to use a slide hammer to remove them however i am having no luck.

If any one has any suggestions or could re-explain the process for me it would be greatly appreciated.

I was also wondering if someone could tell me the best way to pull the races?

Never mind, the 3 jaw puller is what did the trick. That and a a lot of loud banging noises.

I have a special OTC "adapter" for my slide hammer (an OTC "silver Slapper") and it usually only takes me two or three blows to remove a bearing from an axle housing.
