my truck was sitting over the winter and i just moved and had it towed on a car trailer and i had to replace the battery sence my battery was bad. but its running like i have the breaks on or im draging something heavy and the rear anti lock break light is on my dash and it was never there before. when i pulled over and shut it down it looked like it was burning oil on the headers not sure were it might be from when i put oil in a while ago but its been smoking. anyone have any ideas?

Burning oil on the headers? Standard 2.9L leaky valve covers.

And it sounds like you're having an RABS complaint. Is the BRAKE light on as well? It makes a difference. I don't believe RABS failures can lock the brakes engaged (but they certainly can disable the brakes permanently). Are you sure the parking brake is releasing all the way?

no the parking brake light isnt on but the parking brake doesnt work either it needs replaced. so maybe rabs? should i change the unit?

My light turns on to just randomly not sure why.. doesnt feel like im getting dragged down or anything it just comes on when it wants to..

have you jacked up the truck and spun the wheels to see if its dragging?

I believe that the parking brake light can be off and the rear brakes can still be engaged, especially if your parking brakes don't work (which usually means a frozen cable). Jack up the rear wheels and spin them; they either turn easy or they don't.

I had my light on and tried to bleed the rear brake cylinders; no fluid would come out. Replaced the RABS and all was well.

+1 for MAKG on all counts (as usual).

i have 89 ranger and the brake light and the rear antilock light come on it might stay on 5 seconds or it might stay on the whole time i drive it. where do i start?
