really bad heat

I would use a motorcraft tstat and the factory temp I think it is arounf 190 Not sure of your year b_t the pcm the temp sensors to run the truck

can any one tell me how to make a post? i cant figure it out

i wouldnt worry about adding 50/50 of another company like i said before i am using junkyard coolant that is a mix of a ton of coolants. you can pick one up anywhere i just got a 195 degree trermostat from canadian tire for 8.99 and it was in stock ordering online at this time would be a long wait since its christmas season. and the stat would be easier to get at if you remove the air hose. on the inside of that housing is the thermostat it is just sitting there and you pull it out and put the new one in. i will take pics tomorrow when i do mine if you would like. also i will see if i have an extra housing layin around i can show you.

all posts above are appreciated.

i plan on probably just taking a trip down to advance and getting the tstat there... it doesn't seem like it's too work intensive to change that out.. i think i can do it.

i will just put a capture container below to catch any coolant...

how hot should my hoses get that come from my radiator into my firewall? and where is the heater core on an 88 xlt 2.9L auto 4x4

i did the heatercore last week on my 87 bronco II the heater core is directly on the other end of those 2 hoses. literally right behind them. the hoses are actually clamped to the end of the core. its right behind the glove box on the passenger side. there is 5 screws holding the black cover in place 3 at the top and 2 at the floor they are 8mm. after you take the cover off all you have to do is just play with it till it comes out. after you disconnect those 2 heater hoses at the firewall 1st. i would recommend you get a repair manual just to be safe

i have a hayne's...

so i have to undo my dash?

no you can get the 2 screws at the bottom of the plastic cover no prob but it helps if you open up your glove box and push in the 2 tab son each side to let the glove box drop down so you can see the 3 screws better

that's great to hear, my dash is a pain in the ass to take out because of my dash speakers lol. (long story...)

anyway, okay well as much as i'd like to do it right now, the stat might have to wait until the first of the year or at least next week (winter break from school). i have finals this week and i wish i didn't so bad haha.

if i replace the stat and after a day or two of driving my temp needle doesn't rise, then i will look into replacing the heater core.

yeah i would reccomend doing thermostat first if someone has heat problems, it's really easy to do... i didn't try and stop the flow of radiator fluid from coming out, i just let it all drain out and then decided to work on it.

and poured it back in with a funnel after i was done.

i would recommend doing the thermostat too but i knew my core was bad because i would have steaming coolant go through my vents and leave coolant on the inside of my window.

Just for laughs, when I replaced my thermostat I put the old one and the new one in a pot of water on a hot plate and cranked up the heat. You would not believe the difference in speed of opening and amount of opening gap between the two stats. They must get tired and wear out after millions of heat cycles.:icon_thumby:
