im hoping this is a quick fix with a setting or something. I just got windows vista home put onto my computer after I tried numerous times. I was attempting to reformat the hard drive but apparently the restore disks were bad. Somehow they got vista back on and running. The original hard drive has 500 gb. Now when I go to the computer file, it says I only have 48 gb in my c drive? Whats up?

Are there other partitions with the rest of the space? Like a drive D with 400GB or something? I don't see how that can happen. You can always run the "Check Disk For Errors" tool but that shouldn't be necessary on a new PC.

Even if you get it fixed, you still have my blessing to blow up Worst Buy.....

Sounds like they may have installed it on the recovery partition.

not really sure how to check the partitions. There is a D drive with about 10 gb showing.

These are the steps to check for the partitions.

1. Click on Start
2. Right Click on "My Computer"
3. Click on "Manage" in the right click menu
4. Click on "Disk Management"
5. Look at how many partitions are there. You should see 1 C: partition and maybe your CD drive depending on how it is interfaced.

I attached a screen shot of what Disk Management looks like.

That's the way techies do it...:)

You can also just right-click My Computer and choose Explore...you will see all the drives on your computer...and if you right-click one of those and choose Properties it will show you the nice pink/blue pie chart that tells you how much drive space there is...

ok i checked and there is about 400 gb unallocated. Now what?

i just searched online and figured it out. I deleted the D drive cause it was empty anyway, then extended the volume so now im good.

yea im sure they are supposed to do alot of things...thats why I always do my homework before I bring it there. Its still under warranty for a year.

Best Joke sucks. I avoid them like the plague. Hope you get things worked out!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I have so many Best Buyee's come to me for there computer work.

I can do it faster and usually cheaper than BB. I have applied to the geek squad a few times due to not many computer jobs here and each time I get the to over qualified BS. lol

You are too overqualified because you would know that Best Ripoff is ripping people off and they are afraid that you will tell them!!! LOL They really don't know what the hell they are doing, they switched out my old drive once after telling me that my drive was fryed. I brought it bad to my friend here in Belgium and he got everything off of the drive for free and BB wanted to charge me 2,500 for that!!
