Been a member for ?? 20 years or so but got caught in in other stuff for the last decade or so.. Recently sold my El Camino and starting checking out my antique plated 1989 Ford Ranger 2.9 I bought back around 2002 with 3600 miles.. cherry for a few years then starting using it as a regular vehicle.. fast forward and it has 126K plus miles, nothing done at all except brakes and tires. When it turned as an antique I plated it as such.. Anyway, I've been using Dexron ATF for the 5 speed manual trans and also in the power steering unit as I thought I remembered lots of folks doing so... it's been around 20 years or so using Dexron and now I see posts contraindicating using it.. I really doubt I'll change at this mileage but I'm curious what the current thinking is..

Welcome back? I want to say something poetic about chevies coming and going, but rangers remaining, but I don't have a poetic bone in my body.

That's going to be an M5OD? I can't remember what those years had for a manual transmission. M5OD used Dextron/Mercon ATF. With those manuals I think it matters more that you had fluid in it than what type of fluid you had in it. About the same for the P/S system. In newer vehicles it might matter more for the bearings and seals in them, but those older vehicles I think you are probably safe.

89 2.9 Could be FM146 which I think called for gear oil... Post a pic from underneath and we could tell.
