Just looking for some guidance as far as what to look for. My first re-build/teardown, would like to know what to look for.

I know I need to bag-n-tag everything I touch, and I plan to lay it all out easy to follow. But as far as what's broken I don't know how a lot of things inside the motor should look, you know? Any books you can recommend or tech articles would be great. Or tips I might want to know would be great also =)

Right now my motor is seized so I'm pulling it apart with the idea that even if I ruin it, I was scrapping it anyways.

Right now I imagine I'll find a rod jammed into something else, since it can't be turned over. (Sucked up water =\ ).

Thanks for any help =)

Basically, anything that is supposed to be round, should be round, anything thats supposed to be straight, should be straight. In a nutshell.

You'll know when you see a bad piece.

sounds good to me =)

Hoping I don't replace the rods and over look a bigger problem =p

make sure all bearing surfaces are completely smooth...no pitting or scratches....look over the valley closely for cracks and around the main bearing journals...if a rod is bent there is a good chance for the block being cracked...you will need a hone and telescoping gauges and a 3 to 4" micrometer to check cylinders...be sure to check every cylinder several times at different spots...if one has ovaled out then it could be in specs one way but not another...use oil when honing the cylinders...and oil all bearings when installing....and be very carefull installing cam and cam bearings...they are easy to nick when installing the cam..

I personally would send the block and heads to a machine shop and have them checked for cracks before you waste the money on a rebuild kit.
