RCMP, insurance, drugs, and speed limit rant

Drug offenses: first offender: 1 year jail, hard labor. Not this country-club shit they consider jail now - I'm talking Cool Hand Luke-type labor. Second offense: 5 years, same thing. And no parole, no credit for time served, period. You go to jail, you serve every minute. Third offense: death penalty. You are a habitual offender, and will not be a leach on society.

I have no problem with this scheme.
The government should also tell me what food I can and can't eat :thefinger:

lmao dude, you should run for office with this policy under the banner of the Mentally Unstable Lunatic Party, with the proposed goal of overloading the prison system and ballooning Dept. of Corrections budgets to soaring new heights.

Actually you should work in Iran chopping off kids' hands for stealing food. I'm sure you'd love it.

I'm going to quote a spokesman featured in one of my favorite documentaries: Grass

You cannot make a law that governs private morality, you can't enforce it. Could you make a law that says it's a crime to masturbate? You could never enforce it.

The same goes for drugs. Legalize it, tax it, and put those through rehab that actually want the help. The rest can be left to rot. Screw them. The government tries way to hard to please idealists when they should be "making lemons out of lemonade"

Instead they spend tons of money on "speed kills" campaigns. Speed does NOT kill. Stupid kills. the people who happen to be doing something stupid, like running stop signs and merging into other cars, happen to also be speeding. Just like the statistic "the majority of accidents happen within 25 miles of the driver's home" Well no shit, with the exception of myself (My territory for my job is 35 miles away from home) most people spend the majority of their time 25 miles or less from their house...of course more accidents would happen within that range.

...I'm gonna stop myself before I really get going. But you get the idea :)

According to recent USDOT report, only 5% of accidents are caused by excessive speed, the majority, over 40%, are caused by distracted drivers.

Speeding and speeders are among the least of my worries compared to the other activities I witness on the road.

I think the biggest thing with illegal drugs is the fact that there is a LOT of money involved - more than enough to buy off most people that would get in your way. I remember a few years back - and it was an incident that was hushed up really well - a border crossing decided to check a semi that was coming across. No real reason, all the paperwork was in order and the driver said all the right things, it was just a random decision to spot check it. Except it was packed full of drugs. Well, the border guards threw the guy in jail, notified their superiors, and then called the local news station. By the time the local news got there, the semi and the driver had gone missing. Seems someone higher up on the food chain sent a quiet little missive down the ladder to let them go and keep your mouth shut.

I know it sounds like a conspiracy theory, but think about it, think about how much money is involved. And think of how easy it is to smuggle things across the borders of both the U.S. and Canada. Those stupid fences that our government keeps insisting on putting up on the Mexican border are a joke. Secure that border and a lot of the drugs will stop coming across. Sure, there will always be a trickle that you can't do much about, but it'll stop a significant amount. And allow the Coast Guard to fire on suspected smuggling ships if they refuse to heave to. Same goes for suspected drug flights. That'll shut off a big tap. Then do something about the country club jails we got. I don't fully agree with everything that Joe Arpio (sp?) believes in, but I do like his ideas on prison. It should not be an experience you would like to repeat.

And to those who will say something about needing more manpower for the border, I have an idea.... Impose a flat tax (income tax) then take all the IRS agents you don't need, give them a loaded gun and stick them on the border. They should be mad enough about losing their cushy job that they'll want to shoot anything that moves for a couple weeks, lol.

Good ideas indeed. But your theory on securing the border to stop drugs won't work. No attempts to stop and control drugs will ever work for the simple fact that so many people in this country want them here. They WILL find a way. It's not as though it gets a little difficult to find them so people go "Aw crap, it was fun while it lasted. I guess I had better quit now"

I used to smoke a LOT of weed back in high school. I've since stopped, but if a pothead goes dry, most will do nothing else except call people and ask around until they find somebody to buy from. Which isn't all that harmful because the worst potheads usually do is talk your ear off about their points of view, but the same rule applies to the stiffer drugs except they're willing to go further to get it sooner, if you know what I mean.

Now, lets think for a minute that instead of having a shady dealer in a back alley we had a legitimate establishment that sold coke, for instance. (Bear with me, here) Instead of all the money that's spent trying to stop the drugs, we can take a cut of the insanely high revenue that shop is going to make. and since it's a legitimate business, when somebody comes in trying to trade a stolen watch for an 8-ball, that guy is going to get reported and go to jail for theft. You can also fill the place with "Have a problem? Call 1800XXX" just like all those gambling support group billboards you see in towns with casinos. Maybe you could even track the people buying it, have an easy way to catch the people who start doing bad things to get their fix. You could even do a quick background check and not sell it to people on government assistance...who knows where it could go. But I do know promoting back alley deals and people keeping their mouths shut is just going to put money in the pockets of the wrong people and turn it into a problem that will never go away, or even get better.

You can never get rid of the drug problem until you get rid of the people that want the drugs. But we can certainly clean it up a LOT more than it is now. I for one am tired of footing the bill for our current system that quite frankly is just a joke.

I like it! To many guys don't care if they go to jail. Why is it such a bad idea to make prisoners work? There taking my tax $ make em earn it by fixin my road!

Good Rant......a little misguided.....but that will be corrected with age (LOL).

If ya really want to make the place better....kick all the current politicians out of office......mainly Congress in the U.S..

Vote in a bunch of common folks that know nothing about Politics. Their qualifications: never been arrested---always paid their taxes---don't make more than $65,000 a year (instead of a month!)--only been married once(if you can put up with her that long/visa-versa/you'll handle your job to the end!)--never been racist---respect the U.S. soldier---Pro-Life---Pro-Border Control--Pro-5 yr. Jail Sentence for 1st D.U.I.(sorry to step on toes/but my son was MURDERED by a drunk driver)---ETC.

First line of business--withdraw all funding of foreign governments---fix our Nation first....then help other Nations who are willing to help THEMSELVES.

I would make sure that the officer you talked to put in his report that you had found signs of drug use in your truck. If you get stopped in the future you can refer to the truck being stolen if they try to pin some BS drug charge on you.

When it comes to cops and tickets. Lindale, Ohio takes in over 50% of there city budget by writing tickets. But in a lot some cases pulling over a vehicle for a traffic violation leads to other charges.

Yes, I realize that people will use drugs no matter what. All I'm saying is that we could use better border security and it will likely dry up a substantial portion of the drug trade. If the stuff becomes harder to get, less people will likely try it and get addicted.

That's definitely one possibility. The other scenario is it will cause prices to rise and thus drug related crimes as people start needing more money to support their habits.

There really is no simple solution for this problem.

{There really is no simple solution for this problem. }

IS TOO>>>>IS TOO...real simple if you're a doorgunner....let the cops be cops--not truant officers!!!!

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd if it's still too much for them......bring the National Guard back to the U.S.------THEY'RE USED TO USING LIVE AMMO BY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(and dump Congress & start with a fresh bunch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Problem(s) solved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and then the offenders get arrested and let loose because the system is so complicated and the prisons so overcrowded that nobody wants to deal with them.

Arresting somebody doesn't mean much when we don't have an empty prison to put them in, nor the funds to try and incarcerate them. Which is why I think we should start enforcing the death penalty...but that's gonna be for a different thread.

I totally agree with you on dumping congress though.

If you voted D last election - you'll get your wish soon enough.

Flattery will get you nowhere, doper.

What part of "The government has no right to tell anyone what they can or cannot put into their bodies" is so hard to understand? I'm glad you're content with giving up basic freedoms though :icon_thumby:

Do you have kids? If they're teens or older, chances are they've experimented with drugs of one form or another, should they spend a year in jail?

Gun control doesn't work.
The war on drugs doesn't work

Both have exactly the opposite effect of their intention. To deny this is so stupid it's staggering.

I'm not advocating drug use either, I've never once touched an illegal drug nor do I have any desire to but I believe I should have the freedom to do so if I wish.

Conservatives talk the talk when it comes to freedom but never walk the walk.
