First my grille was all broken up in the middle of it. I removed the grille from the truck and cut away all of the broken pieces with a jig saw. I also had some damage on the outer frame of the grille I had to repair with some metal joint repair strips.
Then I bought some "metal lath" at Home Depot for about 8 bucks. It comes in a 27" by 8' size. I laid the metal lath on the grille and cut it to size. I then washed the metal lath in bleach water ( some say vinegar water is better) to remove the oily film that comes on galvanized metal. Next I primered the metal lath with black primer and then with gloss black. I painted the grille frame the same way.
While the grille was off I painted around the radiator flat black ( to cover the white paint). Then I secured each corner the metal lath with sheet metal screws and then proceeded to place the screws 2" apart securing the metal lath to the grille frame. I did not have the money to buy stainless screws for the grille but will replace them with s/s when they begin to rust.
Sorry I did not take pics during the procedure. I was not sure how it would turn out.
