Raybestos oe-match loud!

For the life of me I cannot get these pads to stop squealing! They are semi-metallic. Rotors are in great shape. All moving parts where cleaned and greased. Even tried applying a vibration absorbing coat on back of pads but no luck. Replaced some worn cheapo pads from napa (semi-metallic that NEVER made a noise) with raybestos. The hotter they get the louder & more frequently they squeal.

I've heard other complaints on these to... I never heard a good fix for this either... good luck. most people just end up going back to regular cheapo bads.

Piss..... I just bought some from Rock Auto for my F150. I hope they don't squeal on me.

Edit... what does "oe-match" mean?

cheap pads wear faster but are quieter, think how metal on metal sounds, that's why I avoid metallic pads... $20 Napa pads work for me :)

I like the Wagner Thermoquiets...

I used to run Raybestos Super Stop pads (semi-metallic) until they stopped making them. I had excellent stopping power with them and they never had even the slightest squeak. I now use Akebono pads (ceramic) and they perform as well without as much brake dust.

When I've had the cash I've used ceramic, never had a set make a noise. Plus they wear slower, produce less dust, and make your rotors last longer.

Original equipment match.

I do have to say, as noisy as they are the truck can stop on a dime. Never had the abs come on with the previous pads.

Well, I got the Parts Plus OEM Spec pads, which are made by Raybestos. I got them as a closeout through Rock Auto, so I can't return them (I don't think). I guess I'll run them, and see what happens. Whatever the PO put on it doesn't make any noise, but they don't stop worth a crap. I figured I'd put all new rotors and pads.

OEM is the best way to go when it comes to liability. About the time someone puts organic or ceramic pads on something that came with semi metallic they get into an accident that totals the vehicle. The other guys lawyer buys YOUR vehicle from the insurance company and discovers the difference. Then he/she tells the jury what you did and they all start making that your screwed face even if it didn't have an influence on the accident.

Not likely but you never know.

The OEM brakes on my 2002 Ranger were not good for towing and barely acceptable otherwise. Ford must have known it because they went to larger rotors on the front in 03. I switched to the Raybestos Super Stop pads as an upgrade and they performed very well as an upgrade. I never felt under-braked with the Super Stop pads.

When the Super Stop pads were discontinued, I did a lot of research in finding new brake pads that would work as well as the Super Stops (better than OEM). Akebono did not disappoint and I am still towing happily with them.

Not all ceramic pads are created equally and some are high performance.

I have been fighting this for 7 years now on my F-150.

The original pads squealed so I got new "better" Napa pads. They squeeled so I turned the rotors and got Motorcraft pads, They squealed so I got new rotors and new "blue" Carquest pads and rotors... they squeal too. :annoyed:

Now my brother's '97 is dead silent with Motorcraft pads and whatever rotors were on the truck when he got it... as is my Ranger with the blue pads and Carquest rotors (which is why I got them for my F-150)

So far it stops great, just makes noise unless you really plant the pedal. Turning up the radio (and it is usually up a ways) seems to be the only fix so far. :dntknw:

Radio helps, but young enough to still pick up on the high pitch over music. It is the absolute worst when I am driving 1hr+ on a dirt road. Trying to enjoy the scenery and constantly hearing it don't mix. Might sound silly but makes me embarrassed at a stop light when they squeal, like people are looking at me thinking "does he not take care of his truck?"
