i was standin by my truck the other day with my buddy and hit the remote start and all i smelt was raw fuel after it started, it smells of raw fuel starting it regularly too. what could be wrong? i gave it a full tune up about 6 months ago, but did not change the fuel filter. any ideas guys why it would be like that?:icon_confused:

Let it run and get under the truck with a flash light. We have an 87 up here at the shop that's leaking from the filter. Also, we had a 92 up here that the owner said leaked fuel when he filled it up. We pulled the bed off and it turned out to be the bottom of the filler neck where it goes over the tank inlet.

My filler hose to the fuel tank dry rotted. That is the issue I am dealing with now. Just trying to figure out how to fix it...:-/

I'm guessing you got the bed off? The owner of the one we worked on bought the new filler neck and we replaced it. I can't tell you how much it was off the top of my head.

Check the filler hose to the tank. I replaced mine with an aftermarket piece two years ago, cracking and leaking at the joints of the hose have already developed.

Good luck

How can you get to the filler hose for the gas tank?

I filled up the other night and I'm not sure if the pump was just filling extremely fast or if I had a leak. I looked under the truck but there isn't any clearance to be able see the filler hose going to the gas tank.

I have a 94 Ranger. I'd like to know how I can check the filler hose.

Lift the bed. Six bolts.

Good luck

No I didn't lift the bed...I should have. Spent a lot of time messin' with it. I dropped the tank and it was the biggest pain in the ass!

Now I can't get the vent hose piece attached back on the top of the Fuel tank. I don't know what the hell to do...driving me crazy.
