i got this motor out of a 77 pinto. i yanked the motor and im putting it in a sand rail. im currently running a volkswagen motor. so i hear that this valve cover is rare. i work at a salvage yard. i took a valve cover off of another motor. cant remember what kind of car it was :sorrysign: so i went to take off the good one and put the other stock one on and it doesnt fit. the other one is to short and the studs dont lign up. i thought all 2.3 and 2.0 motors had the same valve cover. any advise? and whats this valve cover going to bring on ebay?

thats just it. a guy told me it was rare and i searched and searched and cant find any for sale. i fould old threads on other sites that guys were posting and talking about wanting them really bad but could not find them anywhere.

Honestly, and this may be just me, I wouldn't sell it whether it was rare or not unless it was VERY common.

As a rule of thumb though, restored original parts are always worth more than reproduction parts, so either way I think you should clean it up.

I love that header.

i took that header off and threw it in the shed. its a HEADMAN header. i will sell it for cheap if you want it. im going to get the esslinger header for sand rails for it. upon further inverstigation this motor has roller rocker arms and what i think is dual valve springs. the motor is now out and on a stand in the shop. im only going to sell it if its wearth good money. im just generating money to buy the adapter kit.

Well if you come up with a price, and I got the cash I'd be willing to take the valve cover off your hands.

is there a way to tell what cam i have by the #'s stamped in the end of the cam? im sure it has a cam by the way it idled.

i want to find out more about what its wearth before i part with it.

Is the pinto of any account and where you located at???

the pinto is going to the salvage yard today. its where i work. we are going to put it out in yard and sell parts off of it. i sold the spindles to a buddy of mine yesturday. he runs them on a imca modified race car. he just wanted some spares. im located in northeast kansas.

That is a 2.0L i4 not a 2.3 the valve cover was an aftermarkey part from ford motorsports. U can get it at a dealer and the cam is probably aft mkt also or it just dont run correctly. My 2.3 has a rough idle and ive been asked what kind of cam im running cause it lopes like a racing cam.

how can you tell its a 2.0 by looking at it? i imagine its an after market cam because it has roller rocker arms to. it ran good till the 4 barrels opened up :annoyed: its going to get a 2 barrel put back on

I have two Motorsport catalogs. One from 1996, the other from 1998. It is in the 96 catalog, but not the 98. I would guess this means it was discontinued in 97 or 98.

Here's a pic:

EDIT: It is very similar to the 2.3 Turbo valve cover, which the SVO guys like a lot. I'd pull it and hang onto it.
