ive heard that a single cab, short box, 4x4 ranger, with a 4.0 and a manual transmission is somewhat rare... just trying to find closure to these rumors... if anyone knows its you guys... thanks

Not as 'rare' in the TTB body styles as in the 98+ SLA trucks but they are around. More rare would be the 2.3L 5spd 4wd.

yea i had a ford dealer tell me a ext cab 4.0 2wd auto was rare... lol.

but the one you have ive seen a few of.

ok, i didnt know, i was just wondering... doesnt really matter to me either way :D

Not sure of the numbers but one of my co-workers here at my dealership had one. I think it was a '92.

Pretty sure when I was buying my '03 they had a 4.0 w/5 speed standard cab - I can't remember for the life of me if it was a 4x4. I've seen older ones - a blue stone 'cutter' down the road has one. '98 I am relatively sure.

any reg. cab short bed ranger is rare in my area. i tried to find a reasonably priced one for almost 2 years and couldn't find one in 2 or 4 wheel drive

only std cab rangers around here we have are like 93-97 2.3L 5 Speed 2wd's. and they're all pretty much beat up!

I don't think they're THAT rare. I bought that exact truck, a '97 as a parts truck. Sadly it will be reconstructed as a 2wd truck, but still with a 4.0, 5 speed and manual 1350 t-case. It'll still be a pretty nice truck.

More rare would be the 2.3L 5spd 4wd.

Killer combo! I'd love to have this set-up.

This is what my truck will ultimately be. The 4 banger has served me well, and has pulled everything I've needed and then some, plus get's roughly 27-30mpg for mileage when I'm not hauling something.

Original post: 95-97 I'd think would be your best years to try and find one that fits that bill.

So am I a hack for cutting up my 2.3 4x4 5 speed reg cab short box? :D

I sure like the way they look with 33's and about 4" of lift. The short bed looks real good.

geeze, im up to my ass out here with 2.3L 4x4 5spds... cant hardly find a 2WD any were... all the rangers are either 4x4, or 2wd ex-cabs.. only 2wd single cabs are fleet trucks around here...
