Well, I finally decided to do the rear brakes on my dually yesterday after it kept taking longer and longer to stop, and with little to no parking brake grabbing. Well, I knew one side the shoes would be wet, I had to change a wheel cylinder a couple of weeks ago, I bought 2 to do both sides, but never did the other side, and I didn't have enough $$ to change the brakes at that time...Here is what the shoes looked like...

And this is the other side, this explains why the parking brake wasn't grabbing...Good thing I bought both wheel cylinders!!

Sooo after I pulled everything apart, and got the glaze off the drums and cleaned up...

I started to put everything back together, and then I realized I got the wrong brake shoes, I got the shoes for a single rear wheel, not a dually...so I put the order in for the correct shoes (called mom while she was in town)...Well I went back to install the wheel cylinder on the passenger side...

and that's when I noticed this...

Soooo back to order more parts before the delivery driver leaves town...but before I get the hub pulled I removed the axle and the splines are covered in a brown milky fluid...Yep, just my luck, I got contaminants in my diff and now have to flush it...Here is what it looked like coming out of the cover...

Not supposed to look like this, is it:icon_confused:

Now, if this wasn't bad enough....The first place I ordered the parts from showed they had it in stock, but when the delivery driver aka my mom got there, they just sold it, they got so busy they forgot to pull the seal off the shelf...so after cancelling my order and crediting my card, I ordered from another store online, and off the delivery driver went. Then called the store and verified...Well, they had their hands on the seal, but they were having problems with the computers and getting the order printed out...They ended up cancelling that order and crediting my card again:annoyed: Then they took the card over the phone and got everything taken care of just as the delivery driver was pulling up...Well, after all this I got it back together, adjusted the brake shoes, I still dont have good brakes...so I'm thinkin i need drums, but before I spend $$ on new drums, I think I'm just going to upgrade to rear disc brakes....Wait til you see what I have in store for this!! I started about 830am and I finally got finished around 7pm...Talk about a rough day doing brakes!!

Sure, but this time we will use your fingers!!

I'm takin my drums back off tomorrow and taking them down to carquest and will have them turned, I believe the glaze is deeper than what I thought...I used 80 grit on them and gave them a nice cross pattern, but they still are not grabbing right...

how did you get coolant all the way back in the diff?? haha jp, sounds like a fun day, especially when a relatively short job takes forever

there is an ecoline dually van at YPP with disk brakes...

Jon, find out how much for that axle, I may have you get it for me and I'll pick it up this weekend or next week

i believe the axle itself is trashed...but all the brakes looked good...if it is the same one that was there the last time i was...

John, or Jon, find out whats wrong with the axle, what it is (D70 or Sterling), what gears are in it and how much it is, I still might get the whole thing...
SVT

the axle itself is broken from the wreck, but the brakes were all there...when i say broke i mean one tube is 6 inches farther back then the other but the brakes look fine

Kool, is it full floater, if so, grab em and the ebrake cables, I plan on coming up there (henderson) friday, so maybe we can go saturday if ur not busy...John, wanna go for a ride??

I don't think that diff fluid is supposed to be " light brown soup!" Either sitting a while or water got in?

Either way, we wanna see the whole rig..........................:icon_surprised:
