Yep, lost the 93 smallblock years ago and now due to changing needs the 05 (supercharged) ranger is sold...
But my blood is still blue so this is the replacement.
While its not as sporty as an SC'd ranger, it handles relatively well considering it weighs double that of a ranger. Its a 2006 F250 FX4 with the 6.0L diesel and 5R110 auto which has 91K on the clock. Sits a little higher than the average 3/4 ton (with no blocks or spacers) so I can only assume some longer front coil springs instead of pucks to level it out. When I checked it out I was happy to see the top of a stud/nut on the outer portion of the cylinder head showing head studs. (torque to yield bolts are prone to stretching for those who didn't know). I checked my engine coolant temps vs. engine oil temps and seen a max delta of 191 ECT / 196 EOT so I'm confident the oil cooler is still functioning. Also, I see the coolant bypass ("U" shape tube) for the EGR cooler so that bullshit is gone too. Truck shifts great and starts a lot easier in the colder temps than I would have imagined.
So far the truck has 4" turbo-back exhaust (cat delete + flow-through muffler) A bullydog intake with new dry filter/prefilter I just did the blue spring mod for fuel pressure. Within a week of owning the truck, I gave in and ordered a new programmer
. I loved the SCT X3 functions and enjoyed working with Fred from Rogue Performance with the Ranger's tuning, so I stayed the SCT route/custom tuning. I picked up a new LiveWire TS and EGT probe from Vivian of Quick Tricks in Florida (Anyone have experience with her looney tunes and looney wild?)
Future plans will most likely include some larger wheels/tires (35ish) and some lockers.... I've always enjoyed the rear locker in my ranger and remember there being a lot of options for the 8.8 axle... but hunting for a decent locker for a 10.5" sterling is much harder. Anyone have good reviews for lockers in a heavy pickup?
Anyway, I may be rangerless and probably have no future need for a 4x4 ranger... but someday I'll find a newer bodystyle 2wd ranger for dirt cheap on craigslist and build another smallblock hotrod. I've gotten to really like the boost and more specifically the turbocharger so I may have to weave that into the plans.
