So I was SUPPOSED to go replace a blown tranny cooler line for a girl I work with this afternoon. But, because of the weather we had the other day the parts didn't come in today, so no go on that. But it was still a beautiful day today, so I had to do something...

Ok, so it wasn't real work, but it still looks good.

BTW, anyone got any good ideas for getting a stuck shifter knob off?

good luck with it and i just picked up a explorer tranny cooler for my ranger for 10 bucks

Yeah, I got her one for about 12. I'm not terribly excited about doing it, partially because I'm working for free, which I don't mind for my friends, but she is just someone I know, not really a friend. Also, its cold and snowy, and I'm not exaclty sure where the trans end is, or how I'm gonna get it out.

96 Buick Regal 3.1L. If anyone knows that, please clue me in.

I hate working in the snow and the cold and i wish i could help you out but i would just follow the metal lines that come from the tranny to the cooler and i can't see that it would be to bad..

That's the catch. They run back under something (intake maybe, can't picture it at the moment) and then I loose them. I'm sure I can figure it out if I think about it for a minute, but this car this is already held together with bubble gum and good intentions, I'd rather not rip and tear looking for stuff.

Looks nice. My choptop had a banner like that on it when I got it. I ended up spending a couple hours with a razor blade and cleaner scraping and scrubbing to remove it because the bonehead that put it on didn't get it centered or straight and I thought it looked goofy. Good thing I didn't get around to replacing it yet, I have to replace the windshield now. While I was seated on the hood of the truck, I also took off the marker lights like you have because they were not evenly set either, lol.

I've had more success than I care to remember removing shifter knobs. All it took was riding around for awhile in the summer with one hand on the shifter at all times and then a hard and fast shift into second would do the trick... The only time that didn't work was on my choptop... I had to take a hacksaw an chisel to the works... but the knob had already been chewed up at that point (previous owner), so I didn't mind destroying the knob.

My current issue is actually born of overmuch success with removing it. When I put the new trans in, I needed the 4x4 a few days later and the darn knob wouldn't stay on so I tapped it on the whole way with a mallet. Now I am replacing the boot and the knob won't come off.

What I did to pull mine off was slip a box wrench underneath the knob and give it a whack with a mallet. In retrospect I should've wrapped a rag or something around the knob, now it has small marks where the wrench sat on it.

I'll have to try that. I was doing it with a pair of pliers with no luck, but they were kinda short.
