In the F-150's, there is a plate over the transmission which can be removed, allowing you to open the transmission without removing it from the truck. Does anyone know if Rangers have the same plate? I don't believe they do, but I'm not certain.

There is a top plate in the transmission you can unbolt to look into the top of the tranny.

There is also a floor plate that can be removed by pulling back the carpet and removing 4 or 5 screws. The floor plate will leave a big hole in your floor, but there is not much you can do from the top of the tranny.

FYI, the floor plate nuts will need some penetrant on the bottom before you start cranking on them.. They will most likely be rusty.

The floor plate on a ranger is neither large enough nor in the correct place to allow the Mazda transmission top cover to be removed.

Hrm... I guess what I am referring to is the shift tower then.

I guess I failed to notice there is actually a top cover other than that one.
